BarTender has two view modes: one for viewing and designing templates and one for viewing and customizing the data entry form.
The Data Entry Form allows you to customize a data entry form, allowing users to input variable data at print-time. While designing the data entry form, you have access to many of the same design features available in the Template Design View. When a data entry control has been created for a data source using the Data Entry Control dialog, BarTender will automatically insert a new control into the data entry form. Because of this, it is possible to use BarTender's data entry feature without ever needing to customize the data entry form. However, if you wish to customize the appearance of the data entry form as it appears at print-time, you will need to switch to the Data Entry Form view.
There are a number of ways you can switch from Template Design View to the Data Entry Form:
-
Select Data Entry Form from the View menu.
-
When designing a template, select the Data Entry Form tab located just above the status bar.
The Main Menu bar is the horizontal bar across the top of the screen that allows you to pull down menus. It contains a list of commands to configure and use BarTender. The following menus are available:
-

-

The Toolbox is a set of panes from which you can drag data entry controls and data sources to make it easier to design the data entry form. It contains the following panes:
-
Controls. Provides a place for you to create data entry controls and link them to existing data sources in your template.
-
Data Sources. Allows you to easily access objects and data sources in your template.
For more information, see Overview of the Toolbox.
The Data Entry Form is an editor that provides a location to design the data entry form which appears at print-time. Using the data entry form, you can position controls, as well as alter their color balance and visual effects, access important information about the size and structure of form, and gain an on-screen view of what the final form will look like when it appears.
The status bar, found at the bottom of BarTender's user interface, displays basic information about the currently selected control, or, when no controls are selected, general information about the document. When a control is selected, the status bar displays the name, position, and size of the control. If there is not a control selected on the data entry form, the status bar displays information about the document and data entry form itself, such as the printer and size of the form. For more detailed information, you can hover your mouse over the desired section of the status bar to display a tooltip.
When you hover over an icon on a toolbar or a menu item, the basic document information will be replaced with a short description of the highlighted item. This is useful in determining how a specific tool is used, or identifying the tool that corresponds to a particular icon on the toolbar.
In some cases, you may wish for BarTender to hide the status bar, so that it does not appear at the bottom of the application's user interface. To toggle the visibility of the status bar, use of the following methods:
-
Open the View menu, and select Status Bar from the Toolbars submenu.
-
From a toolbar's context menu, select Status Bar to show or hide the status bar in the application window.
