Template Design View

The Main Menu bar is the horizontal bar across the top of the screen that allows you to pull down menus. It contains a list of commands to configure and use BarTender. The following menus are available:

• File. Contains options that allow you to load, save, and print the documents you create and modify using BarTender.

• Edit. Contains options that allow you to cut, copy, or delete one or more objects from the template.

• View. Contains options that allow you to change the magnification and position of the template on your display; additionally, provides easy access to the data entry form's design mode.

• Create. Contains options that allow you to add objects to your template; depending on the activated edition of BarTender, you may be able to add barcodes, shapes, pictures, text objects, and/or encoding technologies tags to your template.

• Arrange. Contains options that allow you to control the layout of objects on your template.

• Administer. Contains options that allow you to control BarTender's administrative and configuration settings.

• Tools. Contains options that launch other applications in the BarTender Suite.

• Window. Contains options that allows you to define and switch between one or more additional views of a template or data entry form.

• Help. Contains options that access help and product information.

The toolbars contain shortcut buttons to some of the most frequently used commands in BarTender. The following toolbars are available:

• Main Toolbar. Provides shortcuts to many of BarTender's most commonly used commands and dialogs in the File and Edit menus.

• Object Toolbar. Provides shortcuts to add objects to your templates.

• View Toolbar. Provides shortcuts to alter the way you view the template.

• Arrange Toolbar. Provides shortcuts to the options on the Align and Rotate dialogs.

• Text Toolbar. Provides shortcuts to the options on the Font property page.

• Line and Shape Toolbar. Provides shortcuts to alter the fill and stroke of line and shape objects.

The Toolbox is a set of panes from which you can drag reusable objects and data sources to make it easier to design your template. It contains the following panes:

• Components. Provides a place for you to create, store, and use pre-configured objects used in your template.

• Data Sources. Allows you to easily access objects and data sources in your template.

• Layers. Allows you to easily manage the layers on the template.

The tabs at the bottom of the display provide access to the templates, page template, and data entry form associated with the open document.

The Page Template editor is only available if enabled on the Page tab of the Page Setup dialog.

• The Template is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that allows you to design your items in BarTender. Using the template, you can position and modify objects, access important information about the size and structure of your items, and gain an on-screen view of what the final item will look like when printed. The Template tab bears the name given to the associated template as defined in the Rename dialog.

• The Data Entry Form is an editor that provides the ability to configure data entry at print time. For more information, refer to Data Entry Form.

• The Page Template allows you to add elements to your document such as a header, footer, or watermark. For more information, refer to Page Template.

The status bar, found at the bottom of BarTender's user interface, displays basic information about the currently selected object, or, when no objects are selected, general information about the document. When an object is selected, the status bar displays the name, position, and size of the object. If there is not an object selected on the template, the status bar displays information about the document itself, such as the printer, page setup, and magnification settings. For more detailed information, you can hover your mouse over the desired section of the status bar to display a tooltip. While the status bar's primary function is to display information about the current document, you can click on one of the sections to open the corresponding dialog. For example, clicking on the page setup section of the status bar will open the Page Setup dialog in BarTender.

When you hover over an icon on a toolbar or a menu item, the basic document information will be replaced with a short description of the highlighted item. This is useful in determining how a specific tool is used, or identifying the tool that corresponds to a particular icon on the toolbar.

In some cases, you may wish for BarTender to hide the status bar, so that it does not appear at the bottom of the application's user interface. To toggle the visibility of the status bar, use of the following methods:

• Open the View menu, and select Status Bar from the Toolbars submenu.

• From a toolbar's context menu, select Status Bar to show or hide the status bar in the application window.
