Template Design View

BarTender has two view modes: one for viewing and designing templates and one for viewing and customizing the data entry form.

The Template Design View allows you to design one or more templates in a document, so that you can print items exactly as you see them on the screen. While designing templates, you have access to BarTender's array of design tools, including shortcuts in toolbars and layers and data sources located in the Toolbox.

By default, BarTender displays the Template Design View each time the application is launched or you open a new BarTender document. If you have enabled double-sided printing or are designing multiple templates, then multiple tabs along the bottom of the template are available to help you navigate between your different templates.

If you are not in the Template Design View, you can access it in one of the following ways:

ClosedMain Menu Bar

The Main Menu bar is the horizontal bar across the top of the screen that allows you to pull down menus. It contains a list of commands to configure and use BarTender. The following menus are available:

ClosedToolbars

The toolbars contain shortcut buttons to some of the most frequently used commands in BarTender. The following toolbars are available:

For more information, refer to Showing, Hiding, and Customizing the Toolbars.

ClosedToolbox

The Toolbox is a set of panes from which you can drag reusable objects and data sources to make it easier to design your template. It contains the following panes:

For more information, refer to Overview of the Toolbox.

ClosedTabs

The tabs at the bottom of the display provide access to the templates, page template, and data entry form associated with the open document.

The Page Template editor is only available if enabled on the Page tab of the Page Setup dialog.

ClosedStatus Bar

The status bar, found at the bottom of BarTender's user interface, displays basic information about the currently selected object, or, when no objects are selected, general information about the document. When an object is selected, the status bar displays the name, position, and size of the object. If there is not an object selected on the template, the status bar displays information about the document itself, such as the printer, page setup, and magnification settings. For more detailed information, you can hover your mouse over the desired section of the status bar to display a tooltip. While the status bar's primary function is to display information about the current document, you can click on one of the sections to open the corresponding dialog. For example, clicking on the page setup section of the status bar will open the Page Setup dialog in BarTender.

When you hover over an icon on a toolbar or a menu item, the basic document information will be replaced with a short description of the highlighted item. This is useful in determining how a specific tool is used, or identifying the tool that corresponds to a particular icon on the toolbar.

In some cases, you may wish for BarTender to hide the status bar, so that it does not appear at the bottom of the application's user interface. To toggle the visibility of the status bar, use of the following methods:

To switch to Template Design View or to switch between different templates, press F7 on your keyboard.
