Data Sources Pane |
The Data Sources pane of the Toolbox, which is available when designing templates, lists all of the data sources available for use on your template. Furthermore, using this pane, you can assign any of the data sources to existing objects by simply dragging them and dropping them on the desired object.
The Data Sources pane lists all of the data source types supported by
Embedded Data. Allows you to enter data into an object directly from the keyboard.
Clock. Populates the contents of an object automatically from the clock on your computer or printer.
External File. Populates the contents of an object from an external file, allowing you to import binary and text data.
Visual Basic Script. Populates the contents of an object based on a user-defined VB Script.
Database Fields. Populates the contents of an object from a field in an external source, including databases, delimited text files, spreadsheets, and ODBC or OLE DB sources
Named Data Sources. Populates the contents of an object from the value of a named data source attached to the document.
Global Data Fields. Populates the contents of an object from a global data field retrieved from the BarTender System Database.
Object Value. Populates the contents of an object using the value of an existing object in your document.
Printer Code Template Field. Populates the contents of an object with data received from an external print system such as a keyboard terminal, XML enabled printer, or ERP system.
You can modify a data source directly in the Data Source Properties dialog by double-clicking on the desired data source in the Data Sources pane. In situations where a single data source is attached to multiple objects, editing the data source through this method will update the values for all objects to which it is attached.
