The External File data source type is used to read data from external file data sources, allowing you to import binary and text data stored in a separate file into a text object in
In addition to the Name and Type options (refer to Data Source tab), when External File is selected as the data source type, the following additional options are available:
File Source
Specify file name. Imports the contents of an external file into the data source.
File Name. Specifies the path and file name for the desired external file.
Select File. Opens the Select External File dialog, allowing you to navigate directly to the desired external file.
Get file name from database field. Determines the external file to use by pulling the file name from a database field. In doing so, you can dynamically select an external file based on the contents of the database connected to your document.
Field Name. Specifies the field from your database that will determine the path and/or file name of the external file.
Database Connection Setup. Opens the Database Connection Setup dialog, which allows you to configure
Default Path. Determines the path to the external file, when it is not specified in the database field.
Select Path. Opens the Browse for Folder dialog, which allows you to navigate to the desired directory location of the external file. When you select a location,

Named Data Source. Specifies the named data source that will determine the path and/or file name of the external file.
New Data Source. Opens the Create Named Data Source dialog, which allows you to create a brand new named data source.
Default Path. Determines the path to the external file, when it is not specified in the value of the named data source.
