Data Entry Form View

The Main Menu bar is the horizontal bar across the top of the screen that enables you to pull down menus. It contains a list of commands to configure and use BarTender. The following menus are available:

• File: Contains options that allow you to load, save, and print the documents you create and modify using BarTender.

• Edit: Contains options that allow you to cut, copy, or delete one or more controls or objects from the data entry form.

• View: Contains options that allow you to change the size and position at which you view the data entry form; additionally, provides easy access to the Template Design view.

• Create: Contains options that allow you to add controls and objects to the data entry form.

• Arrange: Contains options that allow you to organize the layout of controls and objects on the data entry form.

• Administer: Contains options that allow you to set administrative and configuration settings.

• Tools: Contains options that launch other applications in the BarTender Suite and provides access to the User Preferences dialog.

• Window: Contains options that allow you to define and switch between one or more additional views of a template or data entry form.

• Help: Contains options that access help and product information.

The toolbars contain shortcut buttons to some of the most frequently used commands. The following toolbars are available:

• Main Toolbar: Provides shortcuts to many of the most commonly used commands and dialogs in the File and Edit menus.

• Object Toolbar: Provides shortcuts to add controls and objects to the data entry form.

• View Toolbar: Provides shortcuts to alter the way you view the data entry form.

• Arrange Toolbar: Provides shortcuts to the options in the Align and Rotate dialogs.

• Text Toolbar: Provides shortcuts to the options on the Font property page.

The Toolbox is a set of panes from which you can drag data sources to make it easier to design the data entry form. It contains the following pane:

• Data Sources: Enables you to easily add data sources to the data entry form.

The tabs at the bottom of the display provide access to the templates, page template, and data entry forms associated with the open document.

• The Template is an editor that enables you to design your items. For more information, refer to Template Design View.

• The Data Entry Form is an editor that provides the ability to create forms that allow data entry at print time. A data entry form tab bears the name given to the associated data entry form as defined in the Rename dialog.

• The Page Template enables you to add elements to your document such as a header, footer, or watermark.

The Page Template editor is only available if enabled on the Page tab of the Page Setup dialog.

The status bar is found at the bottom of the user interface. When no control or object is selected, it displays general information about the document and data entry form itself. This basic information includes such details as the printer currently associated with the document and size of the form. When a control or object is selected, the status bar displays the name, position, and size of the control or object. For more detailed information, you can move your cursor over the section of the status bar that you want to display a tooltip.

When you hover over an icon on a toolbar or a menu item, the basic document information will be replaced with a short description of the highlighted item. This is useful in determining how a specific tool is used, or identifying the tool that corresponds to a particular icon on the toolbar.

In some cases, you may wish for BarTender to hide the status bar, so that it does not appear at the bottom of the application window. To toggle the visibility of the status bar, use one of the following methods:

• From the View menu, select Status Bar from the Toolbars submenu.

• From a toolbar's context menu, select Status Bar to show or hide the status bar in the application window.
