File Menu

The File menu contains options that allow you to load, save, and print the documents you create and modify using BarTender. The File menu also contains options that allow you to specify page and printer settings. Finally, options in the Database Setup dialog allow you to print items using data from external text files, ODBC, SAP IDoc, or OLE DB data sources.

The File menu options are summarized below.

New: Creates a new BarTender document.
Open: Displays the Open dialog, which enables you to open an existing document and load the templates contained in it.
Close: Closes the active document without exiting BarTender.
Close All: Closes all open documents without exiting BarTender.
Save: Saves the active document using the same file name from which it was opened. If the document has not been previously opened, the Save option will display the Save As dialog.
Save and Check In: Names, saves, and checks in the active checked out document to Librarian using the same file name from which it was opened.
Save As: Displays the Save As dialog, which enables you to save the active document by defining the name and specifying a location where it will be saved.
Save All: Saves all open BarTender documents.

Database Connection Setup: Opens the Database Setup dialog, which enables you to specify the characteristics of the database used in the active document.
Page Setup: Opens the Page Setup dialog, which enables you to control the dimensions and placement of items on a single page of stock.
Print Preview: Displays the items in a print job as they will be printed.
Print: Opens the Print dialog, where you can print items and specify the number of serialized items and copies to print. Using this dialog, you can also select the printer on which you want to print your items.

Reprint Console: Opens the Reprint Console application, where you can resend a print job to a printer.

Run BTXML Script: Enables you to select and execute BTXML Script files.
Print Batch: Enables you to select and execute a BarTender batch file.

Export Image: Opens the Export Image dialog, which enables you to export a document or an object on the template to a supported image format.
Export Printer Code Template: Opens a sub-menu from which you choose the print system to use in creating a printer code template. This feature is available with the Automation Edition of BarTender and better.

BarTender Document Options: Opens the BarTender Document Options dialog, where you can set options for the active document, including comments, regional settings, and viewing options.
BarTender Document Password: Opens the BarTender Document Password dialog, which enables you to set a password to protect various aspects of a document including printing and modifying the templates.
View Embedded Revision Log: Opens the Embedded Revision Log dialog, which enables you to embed file information into the BarTender document.

Recent File: Displays the file names of the most recently opened BarTender documents. To open a document on this list, simply click once on the file name.

Exit: Terminates the application. If you have not previously saved the changes made to the document, BarTender will give you an opportunity to do so before ending the program.
