Named Data Sources Dialog

Use the Named Data Sources dialog to manage your named data sources. To open the Named Data Sources dialog, click the Data Sources tab in the Toolbox to open the Data Sources pane. From the Named Data Sources context menu, select Manage Named Data Sources. Alternatively, double-click on an existing named data source in the list.

The options in the Named Data Sources dialog are almost identical to those on the Data Sources property page.

The Named Data Sources dialog contains the following:

ClosedNavigation Pane

The Navigation Pane lists all of the named data sources that are defined in your document. You can manage the named data sources using the toolbar, located below the list.

Enables you to create a new named data source by opening the Create Named Data Source Wizard.

Deletes the selected named data source.

Deletes the selected named data source and copies it into BarTender's clipboard.

Copies the selected named data source into BarTender's clipboard.

Pastes a copy of the named data source currently in the clipboard into the list.

ClosedData Source Tab

The Data Source tab determines the name and data source type for the data source currently selected in the Navigation Pane.

It contains the following options:

Each of the different data source types has its own set of options. Instead of displaying all of the options for the different data source types at once, the Data Source tab includes a dynamic area that changes to display only those options relevant to the data source you have specified. Each of these options is described in detail at Selecting a Data Source.

ClosedData Type Tab

The Data Type tab specifies the data type for the selected data source, preventing BarTender from interpreting certain data inputs, such as numerical values, dates, or binary data as text. This enables you to perform mathematical functions on numerical values or display the time and date in a different language's format without changing the language of the BarTender interface. By changing the data type of a value, you can easily format and display scientific notation, automatically display numbers as percentages, format and serialize roman numerals, or perform functions on date objects.

Each of the different data types has its own set of options. The Data Type tab includes a dynamic area that changes to display only those options relevant to the data type you have specified. For more information on the options available for each data type, select a data type below.

ClosedTransforms Tab

The Transforms tab provides access to additional data source options used to modify (or "transform") a data source, such as serialization and truncation. To configure these options, select the icon next to the option that you want. The selection of available transforms will vary based on the selected Data Type, and will include one or more of the following:

Importing and Exporting Named Data Sources

BarTender supports importing named data sources from other documents through the Import Named Data Sources button on the main landing page of the Named Data Sources dialog. You can also export your named data sources to a separate file for use with other documents by clicking the Export Named Data Sources button.
