During printing, data from a variety of sources can be merged with your template to complete your print job. The information contained in a single data source depends on the selected data source type, which is specified on the Data Source tab of the Data Sources property page. A data source type defines how BarTender determines the information contained in a data source. For example, you may enter data from the keyboard, read in variable data from a database, or process a VBScript and use the result as the contents of the data source.

BarTender supports the use of the following data sources:

• Database Field

• Global Data Field

• Object Value

• Print Job Field

• External File

• Visual Basic Script

• Printer Code Template Field

• Link to an Existing Named Data Source
