Enabling Separate Back and Front Designs

Double-sided printing can be used to print the same design on both the front and back sides of the page. It can also be used to print one design on the front of the page, and a different design on the back side. When your item requires a different front and back design, you can set up BarTender to design the two sides separately in different templates. To do so, complete the following steps:

  1. Select Page Setup from the File menu to open the Page Setup dialog. Alternatively, double-click on the template.

  2. Select the Page tab.

  3. Under Printing on Both Sides, enable the checkbox for Separate designs for front and back.

  4. If desired, check Rotate back side 180. This rotates the design on the back side of the item 180 degrees when it is printed.

  5. Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog.

Once separate designs are enabled, you are ready to design and modify your templates. To modify the front design, select Template (Front) at the bottom of the template design area, just above the status bar. Similarly, you can access the back design by selecting Template (Back). You can switch between the front and back designs by selecting Next Template Design or Previous Template Design from the View menu.

To switch between the front and back templates, press F7 on your keyboard.

When you print the document, BarTender will send both the front and back designs as a single print job. It is not possible to print the front of the item without the back side, and vice versa. To print only one design, you will need to disable the Separate designs for front and back option in the Page Setup dialog of BarTender.

If you disable the Separate designs for front and back option, only the template for the front design will be retained, and the template for the back design will be deleted. You will be unable to restore the back design should you re-enable the Separate designs for front and back option in the future.

If you send a document that contains different designs for the front and back to a printer that does not support duplex printing, the front and back designs will print on two separate pages.
