Types of Printers

There are two ways to print from BarTender Cloud: using BarTender Cloud printers and the Print Gateway, or using weblink-enabled printers directly.

BarTender Cloud Printers

To print documents from BarTender Cloud requires the installation of Print Gateway.

The BarTender Print Gateway service is a Windows-based service designed by Seagull Software that exposes local resources to enable cloud printing. The BarTender Print Gateway service detects your locally installed printers and makes those printers available to BarTender Cloud. The service also receives print jobs from the BarTender Cloud Print Engine and sends those jobs to locally installed printers.

Installing the Print Gateway service is optional, but if it is not installed, BarTender Cloud cannot find your printers. You can still generate PDF files and send those to your printers manually, but your optimized print code generation, printer settings, and native device features and functionality (such as RFID encoding) will not be used.

For more information about Print Gateway, refer to the Installing and Updating the Print Gateway technical document, available from the BarTender Resource Library .

Linked Printers

Linked printers (i.e., weblink-enabled printers) connect directly to BarTender Cloud. When a weblink-enabled printer, such as a Zebra printer using Zebra DNA, is connected, the user can print a label directly on the printer, bypassing the Print Gateway entirely.

A linked printer must be both weblink enabled and part of Seagull Software's Universal Printer driver.

For a list of Zebra printers that are currently compatible with this feature, go here .

Link a weblink-enabled printer to BarTender Cloud using the Add Linked Printer button on the Printers page. This opens the Add Linked Printer dialog, where you can select the brand of the printer you want to link, then run through the process of linking the printer. You can also use the Zebra Printer Setup Utilities mobile application to link a printer. For more information on this, refer to Adding a Linked Printer in this help system.

Linked printers do enable optimized print code generation, printer settings, and native device features and functionality (such as RFID encoding) .
