The Administration Console Security page enables you to enable or disable BarTender security and to specify where the security settings are stored (locally, on the network, or in the BarTender System Database). You can also select a method for error handling. To open the Security page, click Security in the left Navigation Pane of Administration Console.
Enable Security for this PC. When this option is selected, BarTender's integrated security system is activated for your computer's BarTender installation. This enables you to define user permissions, log permission checks, require electronic signatures, and/or encrypt BarTender documents. To turn off BarTender security, click to clear this box.
|
After you have enabled BarTender's security settings, any Windows user or group that is not defined in the User Permissions page will automatically be denied access to all actions within the BarTender Suite. |
Security Storage
Local File: Saves BarTender's security settings to the specified file on the local computer. This security setup controls the security for this computer only and will not affect other installations of BarTender on the network.
Shared File: Saves BarTender's security settings to a shared file on the network. This enables the same settings to be used for multiple BarTender installations on the network. When using this option, be sure to set the permissions on this file to prevent unauthorized users from writing to the shared file.
System Database: Saves BarTender's security settings to the BarTender System Database. The security settings are shared between all BarTender installations on the network that are both connected to the same BarTender System Database and have this option selected for Security Storage. If the BarTender System Database is not set up, click Setup to launch the System Database Setup Wizard. (Available only with the Enterprise Automation edition of BarTender.)
For more information about how BarTender security storage works, refer to About Security Storage.

If you share BarTender's security settings, a change in the settings may require a few seconds to take effect on other computers on the network. |
Error Handling
If you select either Shared File or System Database for security storage, you can select how to handle errors when BarTender's security system cannot contact a remote machine that stores your security settings.
Deny access to all actions: All actions are unavailable until the problem is fixed.
Use cached security settings: The last known settings will be used until BarTender's security system can reconnect. This option will use the cached settings if the shared file or database is unavailable.
