Duplicating Objects

When you duplicate an object, you specify the location on the template where you want the copy (or copies) to be placed. Using the Duplicate dialog, you can copy the object(s) in one of the following ways:

ClosedTo duplicate an object

  1. Select the object or objects you want to duplicate. To select more than one object, hold down the Shift or Ctrl key as you click on each object that you want to duplicate.

  2. From the Arrange menu, select Duplicate to open the Duplicate dialog. Alternatively, select Arrange from the object's context menu and select Duplicate.

  3. Select the method you want to use to duplicate the object and configure the properties for that method.

  4. ClosedDuplicate vertically

    • Copies: Specify the number of duplicate copies you want to create. You can type a value in the input box or use the up and down arrows to select the desired number.

    • Offset: Specify the amount of vertical space you want between each of the objects. When a positive value is specified, the copies are placed below the original object. When a negative value is specified, the copies are placed above the original object.

    ClosedDuplicate horizontally

    • Copies: Specify the number of duplicate copies you want to create. You can type a value in the input box or use the up and down arrows to select the desired number.

    • Offset: Specify the amount of horizontal space you want between each of the objects. When a positive value is specified, the copies are placed to the right of the original object. When a negative value is specified, the copies are placed to the left of the original object.

    ClosedDuplicate horizontally and vertically (table layout)

    • Columns: Specify the number of columns you want formed by the object and its duplicate copies. You can type a value in the input box or use the up and down arrows to select the desired number.

    • Rows: Specify the number of rows you want formed by the object and its duplicate copies. You can type a value in the input box or use the up and down arrows to select the desired number.

    • Horizontal Offset: Specify the amount of horizontal space you want between each of the objects (i.e., the columns). When a positive value is specified, the copies are placed to the right of the original object. When a negative value is specified, the copies are placed to the left of the original object.

    • Vertical Offset: Specify the amount of vertical space you want between each of the objects (i.e., the rows). When a positive value is specified, the copies are placed below the original object. When a negative value is specified, the copies are placed above the original object.

    ClosedDuplicate to next template(s)

    • Copies: Specify the number of subsequent templates that you want the object(s) copied to. You can type a value in the input box or use the up and down arrows to select the desired number.

    • If you have specified more copies than the number of existing templates in the document, a prompt will request permission to create the necessary template(s). If there are more templates than copies indicated, no copies are placed on the remaining templates.

       

  5. Enable (check) Clone data source values if you want the duplicate copies to be linked to the same data source as the original object. When enabled, if the data source value of the original object is subsequently updated, the data source value of any duplicated copy is also updated.

  6. Click OK to create the duplicate copies and close the dialog.
