Picture Control

A picture control is a picture that appears on the data entry form at print-time. The picture can be imported from your computer or generated from the current template design. If you choose to preview the template on the data entry form, the picture will update based on the data entered into other controls on the data entry form.

The Picture Control Properties dialog specifies the properties of a picture on the data entry form, and can be accessed using the following method:

• When designing the Data Entry Form, select the desired picture object. Double-click on the picture to open the Picture Control Properties dialog. Alternatively, you can open the context menu and select Properties.

The Picture property page allows you to define the method BarTender uses to import an image, as well as the dimensions and sizing method of the picture object.

Picture Source

• Picture Source. Specifies how BarTender imports a picture into the data entry form. Select from the following options:

  • Embedded Picture. Inserts a picture that permanently becomes a part of the document.

  • External Picture File. Inserts a picture that is referenced by a stored path and file name. When you print a document and display the data entry form, BarTender will automatically update the open image based on the picture stored at the given path.

  • Preview of Printed Item. Inserts a preview image of the item, containing the data currently entered in the data entry controls.

The options listed below are located in a dynamic area of the Picture property page; the options available depend on which Picture Source you select.

• Get Picture From. Allows you to locate and import a picture file into your data entry form from your computer, scanner, or camera. Click here for a complete list of supported image formats. Available when Embedded Picture is selected.

• Edit Picture. Opens the selected picture in your computer's default image editing program. This option is useful if there are specific changes you wish to apply to the image, such as applying advanced formatting changes not available in BarTender. Available when Embedded Picture is selected.

• Save Picture. Saves any changes made to the picture as a new picture file for future use. Available when Embedded Picture is selected.

• Apply Image Processing Permanently. Saves all picture adjustments, cropping, and effect changes as the new defaults, and saves the modified image as a new image. Available when Embedded Picture is selected.

  Selecting Apply Image Processing Permanently locks in any changes you have made and makes them the new default settings. For this reason, Apply Image Processing Permanently should only be used once all editing has been done.

• Specify file name. When selected, specifies the path and file name of the desired image. BarTender will insert the image at the specified location into the template; therefore, if the original picture file changes, BarTender will update the picture displayed on the template. Available when External Picture File is selected.

• Select File. Allows you insert a picture by browsing to it on your computer. Available when External Picture File is selected.

• Get file name from database field. When selected, specifies the database field containing the path and/or file name of the desired image. If a path is not specified in the database, you can enter it into the Default Path field. BarTender will reference the specified database field, and print the image contained in each database record on your items. Available when External Picture File is selected.

• Get file name from data source. When selected, inserts an image based on the path and/or file name specified on the Data Source property page. If a path is not specified in the data source, you can enter it into the Default Path field. Available when External Picture File is selected.

• Template. Determines which template is displayed on the data entry form. Available when Preview of Printed Item is selected.
