Enhanced Identity Provider

An identity provider is a background service that converts unique identifying information about a user (typically, a user name and password pair, biometric input, or personal identifier number) to an access token that represents the identity of that user when they interact with, for example, a browser-based application.

The October 2024 BarTender Cloud update enhances its original (now legacy) identity provider with new features, including the use of an organization domain ID for each BarTender Cloud customer. (For example, if your company name is DeLellis Medical Devices, your organization domain ID might be "delellis", and your BarTender Cloud URL might look like "https://delellis.am1.bartendercloud.com".)

Important: If you use a custom client application to authenticate your users, that authentication process will need to be re-established. For information about how to do this, refer to Updating Your Client Authentication Apps.

We made this change because we understand that customers do not all have the same security considerations. The enhanced identity provider offers more flexibility and scalability so that we can develop options for you to customize your security settings.

With the enhanced identity provider and the new support for organizations, BarTender Cloud now supports the following:

  • Use of individual email addresses with more than one organization

  • Federated sign-in (currently, support for Google is provided)
