The Symbology and Size property page for the MaxiCode symbology includes the following options.
Symbology: Specifies the symbology that is selected. You can use this list to select a different symbology.
Dimensions
X dimension: Specifies the width of the X dimension.
Opens the Barcode X Dimension dialog, which you can use to configure advanced X dimension settings.
Ratio: Specifies the ratio between the widths of the wide and narrow elements in a barcode symbol. By default, this option is set to Auto and cannot be changed.
Density: Not available for this symbology.
Height: Not available for this symbology.
Symbology Specific Options
Mode: Specifies the data mode. The following options are available:
Mode 2: Structured Carrier Message: Used for United Parcel Service (UPS) domestic shipping. The primary message fields are required, and the secondary message fields are optional. Use the MaxiCode Data Source wizard to instruct BarTender to create all the fields that have the correct formatting as separate data sources.
Mode 3: Structured Carrier Message: Used for UPS international shipping. The primary message fields are required, and the secondary message fields are optional. Use the MaxiCode Data Source wizard to instruct BarTender to create all the fields that have the correct formatting as separate data sources.
Mode 4: Standard Symbol: Used to generate free-form, general-use barcodes. This mode does not require any primary or secondary message fields.
Mode 6: Reader Programming: Used to program scanners that can be programmed by scanning a barcode. Consult your scanner's documentation for the information and codes that are required.
Hold to specifications: Specifies that the dimensions of the symbol are set to the symbology standard and cannot be changed. To change the symbol dimensions, click to clear this check box.
MaxiCode Data Source Wizard: Starts the MaxiCode Data Source wizard, which you can use to configure the barcode's individual fields as separate data sources. These data sources are correctly formatted with the settings that ensure that the raw data conforms to the symbology specifications, although you can edit them as needed. The following options are available.
Data Source
Get data from database: Specifies that the data that the barcode contains is imported from a database.
Create data entry controls: Specifies that the user is prompted to enter the data when a print job is run.

When you use the Data Source wizard, any data sources that were previously specified for the barcode are deleted. |
Required Primary Message Fields
Postal code: Specifies the type of postal code that is required by your MaxiCode barcode. Configurable when the Mode option is set to Structured Carrier Message: 2.
Country code: Specifies the country code that is encoded into your MaxiCode barcode. Read-only.
Class of service: Specifies the class of service. This code is required by the MaxiCode Primary Message and cannot be changed. Read-only.
Optional Secondary Message Fields
When the Mode option is set to Structured Carrier Message: 2 or Structured Carrier Message: 3, you can add optional fields as data sources to your MaxiCode barcode. To insert a field, click to select the check box for the field that you want to include.
Color: Displays the currently selected color of the barcode symbol. To select a different color, click this option, and then use the Color Picker to select the color that you want. For more information, refer to Color Picker.

Barcode scanners cannot read colored barcodes as well as they can read barcodes that are printed in black. Therefore, we recommend that you do not modify the color of barcode objects unless they are used only for decoration. |
Print Method: Opens the Print Method Options dialog, where you can specify how your barcodes are printed on thermal printers. Available when you use a thermal printer that has Drivers by Seagullâ„¢ installed.
