The File menu contains options that allow you to add files to Librarian and modify selected files or folders. The options available in the File menu will change depending on the type of item that is selected in the file repository.

The File menu options are summarized below.

• Open: Opens the selected file for viewing. (Available when one or more files are actively selected)

• Get Latest Revision: Displays the Get File(s) dialog, which allows you to retrieve a file from the repository and save it to your computer. (Available when a file is actively selected in the Files pane)

• Add: Displays the Add File(s) dialog, which allows you to browse to and add BarTender documents to the file repository. The new item is placed in the selected folder within the Folder pane.

• Create New Folder: Creates a subfolder within the currently selected folder in the file repository. (Available when the Folder pane is actively selected)

• Check Out: Checks out the selected file(s), and opens the file(s) for editing. (Available when one or more files are actively selected)

• Check In: Checks the selected file(s) back into the respository. (Available when the selected file is currently checked out)

• Undo Check Out: Reverse the check out process for the selected file(s).

• Change State: Opens the Change State dialog, which allows you to assign a state to the selected file(s). (Available when one or more files are actively selected)

• Delete: Removes the selected item from the file repository. If a folder is selected, all subdirectories and files will also be removed.

• Rename: Renames the selected item in the file repository.

• Undelete: Restores a deleted item. (Available when Show Deleted Items is selected in the View menu and a deleted item is selected in the file repository)

• Purge: Removes a deleted item from the BarTender System Database. This operation removes the history of the deleted item, and cannot be reversed. (Available when Show Deleted Items is selected in the View menu and a deleted item is selected in the file repository)

• Add Comment: Allows you to add a comment to the selected file(s). (Available when one or more files are actively selected)

• Embedded Revision Log : Opens the Embedded Revision Log dialog, which allows you to view changes that were made to the BarTender document.

• Properties: Displays the Properties dialog for the selected file.

• Exit: Terminates the Librarian application.
