Log File Options

• Log File Folder: Specifies the directory where log files will be saved. To specify a directory, simply type in the path or select the Browse button to navigate to the folder location that you want.

• Organization: Defines how log files will be created and named.

  • One File: Specifies that all print job logs will be appended to a single log file for all print jobs.

  • By Document File Name: Specifies that the log file will be saved according to the name of the printed document.

  • By Date: Specifies that all print job logs will be saved according to the system date.

  • Separate Files: Specifies that separate log files will be created for each print job according to the name of the printed document.

• Output Type: Specifies the format for the log files.

  • Tab Delimited: Specifies that tabs will separate the data contained in the log file.

  • Comma Delimited: Specifies that commas will separate the data contained in the log file.

  • Quote and Comma Delimited: Specifies that quotes and commas will separate the data contained in the log file.

  • HTML Delimited: Specifies that the log file will be saved using HTML format. This files can be viewed using an Internet browser.

• Encoding: Specifies the character set of the log file.

Log Files

• View: Enables you to open a previously generated log file in the default text editor (for text files) or your web browser (for HTML).

• View Last: Opens the last log file created by the last print job.

• Delete All: Deletes all .txt and .htm files located in the folder specified in the Log File Folder option.

The Delete All option will delete all files of these types. If you have other files of these types in the specified folder, do not use this option to delete them. Instead, use My Computer or the Windows Explorer.

The options on the Header, Per Printed Item, and Footer tabs specify the information that will be stored in the log file. For example, you may want the print time to be logged for each item. To do so, you would enable the Start Time setting on the Per Printed Item tab. The options you select will display in the Sample Log File at the bottom of the dialog. Refer to Header, Per Printed Item, and Footer Settings for a complete list of the options available in these tabs.

On the Per Printed Item tab, there is an additional option for Data Sources to Log. This option specifies whether the data contained in objects on the template should be included with the data in the log file.
