Header, Per Printed Item, and Footer Settings

When you specify that BarTender will generate a log file during a print job, you can specify settings to include certain data in the log file. These settings are located on the Header, Per Printed Item, and Footer tabs of the Print Job Text File Log Setup dialog. Most of the settings are available on all of the tabs; however, a few of the settings are available on just one or two of the tabs. Shown in parentheses after the name of each option is the name of the tab or tabs on which the setting is displayed.

Data to Log (Header)

The following data can be recorded in the header of the log file:

Topmost Separator Line: Includes a line to mark the beginning of the entire log entry.
Log File Name: Includes the name of the log file.
Computer Name: Includes the name of the computer BarTender was running on.
User Name: Includes the user name of the person running BarTender.
Document Name: Includes the file name of the document that was printed.
Start Time: Includes the system time when the job started printing using the format specified in the regional settings.
Serial Numbers: Includes the number specified for the Serial Numbers option of the Print dialog.
Copies: Includes the number specified for the Copies option of the Print dialog.
Printer Name: Includes the name of the printer on which the items were printed.
Print Job Name: Includes the name of the print job, if one is assigned.
Database File Name: Includes the name of the database file from which data was read if BarTender was connected to one at the time the print job was executed.
Start Date (Long Format): Includes the date when the job started printing with the month and year spelled out; i.e., January 1, 1999.
Start Date (Short Format): Includes the numeric equivalent of the date when the job started printing; i.e., 1/1/99.
Item Width: Includes the width of the printed items as specified in the Page Setup dialog.
Item Height: Includes the height of the printed items as specified in the Page Setup dialog.
Number of Rows: Includes the number of rows on a single page of stock as specified in the Rows option, located on the Layout tab of the Page Setup dialog.
Number of Columns: Includes the number of columns on a single page of stock as specified in the Columns option, located on the Layout tab of the Page Setup dialog.
Separator Line: Enters a line below the header to separate the text from the list of data printed per item.
Per Template Field Names: Includes a line with the field number or data source names as specified on the Data Source tab of the Data Sources property page.

Data to Log (Per Printed Item)

The following data can be recorded for each item printed in the print job:

Item Number: Includes the sequential number for the items printed.
Log File Name: Includes the name of the log file.
Computer Name: Includes the name of the computer BarTender was running on.
User Name: Includes the user name of the person running BarTender.
Document Name: Includes the file name of the document that was printed.
Start Time: Includes the system time when the job started printing using the format specified in the regional settings.
Serial Numbers: Includes the number specified for the Serial Numbers option of the Print dialog.
Copies: Includes the number specified for the Copies option of the Print dialog.

The following data can be recorded in the footer of the log file:

Separator Line: Enters a line above the footer to separate the text from the list of data printed per item.

Document Name: Includes the file name of the document that was printed.

End Time: Includes the system time when the job finished printing using the format specified in the regional settings.
