Often times, rather than having a person type in data or select an option from static choices placed on the data entry form, you may need to import data into a form from an outside source, such as a database, weighing scale, or a camera or scanner. This imported data might be something you want printed directly on your documents, or you might use it to provide criteria that specifies what is to be printed.

• Using Database Records on a Form

  By importing database records into your data entry forms, you can create a much more flexible form. Importing data can ensure that the selection choices on a form are based on current data. It can also allow users to select specific records to print from an interactive record selector dialog right on the form. Enabling query prompts on the data entry form enables users to filter the data that is viewed on the form or that is printed on their items.

• Using Scales for Data Entry

  Importing weight measurements into your data entry form is supported using a scale display control that is connected to a weighing scale that you have added as a device to your computer. At print-time, the data entry form will display a live reading of the measured weight that will then appear on your printed item(s).

• Using Image Capture for Data Entry

  An image capture control enables you to capture photographs or scanned images directly from a digital camera, scanner, or video device and print them on ID cards, labels, or other items with a single click. By using an image capture control on your data entry form, you will be prompted for the image at print-time, and the image you download will then appear on your printed item(s).
