A database is a collection of information, structured in such a way that it relates categories of data to each other. In BarTender, you can connect a document to a database and specify the data that you want to use to populate objects on your template. At print-time, there will be a printed item for each individual record in your database that met your specified criteria.

Consider the following situations:

• You have multiple items that you need to output, but some of the data changes on each item that is printed.

• All of the data that you need to print on your items is contained inside of a database or spreadsheet.

• The data that you need to print is automatically created by an external application.

In all of these cases, the most efficient way to print the data is to connect the BarTender document to an existing database on your computer and import the information from the database into your template at print-time
