When you need to read data from a database, BarTender makes it easy to add a database connection and customize its settings. This process begins with the Database Setup Wizard. The Database Setup Wizard assists you in setting up connections to databases from which BarTender can then read data when printing a .
If you are not connected to a database, click the icon on the main toolbar to launch the Database Setup Wizard. If you are already connected to a database and need to add a new one, click the icon on the Database Setup dialog. Once you have opened the Database Setup Wizard, you can specify the type of database you want to connect to by selecting a database platform. When you have completed the wizard, you can set up and customize your connection.

This dialog contains
tools that allow you to customize the database connection(s) as needed to optimize BarTender's ability to read the desired data. Customization includes configuring tables and views, creating joins and queries, creating custom sort order, and writing custom statements.

Using Named Database Connections
If you have any BarTender documents that share the same database(s), and the database(s) will be configured in the same way, you should create a named database connection.
Named database connections save your connection properties and parameters so you don't have re-enter them every time you use them in a document.

About Table and Database Joins
If you are using more than one table or database in a BarTender document, the tables or databases must be joined. A database join (or simply, a join) tells BarTender how data in multiple tables or databases is related.

Assigning Aliases to Tables and Database Fields
From the Database Setup dialog, you can assign an alias, or alternate name, to any table or database field. An alias lets you refer to the original table or database field, even if the document is set up to reference it by a different name.
