Creating and Modifying Documents

A BarTender document (or simply a document) is a file that you create and save in BarTender. It is saved on the file system of your choice with the extension *.btw.

Each document consists of one or more templates and/or data entry forms that you design in BarTender. A number of sample documents are installed alongside the BarTender application in the BarTender\BarTender Documents sub-directory of the My Documents folder.

Viewing the sample documents can be an easy way to discover the many features and capabilities of the application. After you have loaded a document, you can examine the various dialog settings to determine what features and customization options are available. To open an existing document, select Open from the File menu.

ClosedTemplate

A template is a design area in BarTender where you design the items you want to print. Each template can have any number of barcodes, pictures, or text objects to give you a true WYSIWYG experience with BarTender.

By default, each document starts out with a single template (or design), but it is easy to add more. Using multiple templates enables you to print different designs based on the data queried from a database or to print multiple designs in the same job. Keep in mind, however, that all templates must have the same dimensions.

For more information, refer to Template Design View.

ClosedData Entry Form

A data entry form is a user-customizable dialog that appears at print-time, letting users input data into objects on their template. Users can input data in a number of ways using controls such as text boxes, dropdown lists, radio buttons, and record pickers.

For more information, refer to Data Entry Form View.
