Editing the Network Location Tree

You can use the Edit Location Tree dialog to edit the location tree that displays the locations of your printers in the network in a hierarchical format. Nodes and child nodes are listed in alphabetical order, and this order cannot be changed.

To open this dialog, use one of the following methods:

  • On the Printers page, click View By Location, and then click for the location that you want.

  • On the Printer Details page, click Edit Location Nodes on either the Printer Info tab or the Edit tab.

The tree is displayed in a box on the left side of the dialog. You can click Collapse all or Expand all to collapse or expand all the nodes in the tree.

ClosedTo add a new top-level node

  1. In the Edit Location Tree dialog, click Add Node. If the Add Node button is not displayed, or if it is displayed but unavailable, click an empty space in the location tree box to make sure that no nodes or printers are selected in the location tree.

  2. In the New Node area, follow these steps:

    1. In the Node Name field, enter a unique name for the node.

    2. Optionally, select an icon for the node. To do this, click Change Icon, and then select the icon that you want.

    3. Optionally, select a color for the node. To do this, click Icon Color, and then select the color that you want.

    4. Click Apply.

  3. Click Save Changes.

ClosedTo add a child node

  1. In the location tree, select the node that you want to add a child node to, and then click Add Child Node.

  2. In the New Node area, follow these steps:

    1. In the Node Name field, enter a unique name for the node.

    2. Optionally, select an icon for the node. To do this, click Change Icon, and then select the icon that you want.

    3. Optionally, select a color for the node. To do this, click Icon Color, and then select the color that you want.

    4. Click Apply.

  3. Click Save Changes.

ClosedTo delete one or more nodes

  1. In the location tree, select the nodes that you want to delete, and then click Delete.

  2. In the Confirm Delete dialog, click Delete.

Note: When you delete a node that has child nodes, the child nodes are not deleted. Instead, they and the printers that they contain are moved up one level in the location tree.

ClosedTo edit a node's name, icon, or color

  1. In the location tree, select the node that you want to edit, and then click Edit Node.

  2. In the Edit Node area, make the edits that you want, and then click Apply.

  3. Click Save Changes.

ClosedTo edit the icon or color of more than one node

Use this procedure when you want to edit multiple nodes so that they use the same icon and/or color.

  1. In the location tree, select the nodes that you want to edit, and then click Edit Node.

  2. In the Edit Nodes area, make the edits that you want, and then click Apply.

  3. Click Save Changes.

ClosedTo move one node into another

Use this procedure when you want to move a node into a second node to become the second node's child node.

  1. In the location tree, select the node that you want to move, and then drag it to the node that you want to add it to.

  2. Click Save Changes.

ClosedTo move multiple nodes into another

Use this procedure when you want to move more than one node into another node to become the other node's children.

  1. In the location tree, select the nodes that you want to move, and then drag them to the node that you want to add them to.

  2. In the Confirm Move dialog, click Continue.

  3. Click Save Changes.

ClosedTo make a child node into a top-level node

Use this procedure when you want to move a child node up to the top level in the location tree.

  1. In the location tree, select the node that you want to move, and then drag it to the top of the location tree list.

  2. Click Save Changes.

ClosedTo move one or more printers from one node to another

  1. In the location tree, select the printers that you want to move, and then drag them to the node that you want to add them to.

  2. Click Save Changes.

You can also move a specific printer to another node by using the Edit tab of the Printer Details page. To do this, click the Location list on the Edit tab, click the node that you want, and then click Save Changes.
