Supplemental Options Dialog

When some retail items, such as paperback books and magazines, use the UPC or EAN symbology, the main UPC/EAN symbol is often followed by a shorter two-digit or five-digit supplemental barcode to the right of the main symbol. Most of the characteristics of this supplemental barcode (such as density, height, and position) match the characteristics of the main UPC/EAN symbol that precedes it.

You can use the Supplemental Options dialog to add a supplemental barcode to a UPC or EAN symbol that is already on the template. To open this dialog, click Supplemental on the Symbology and Size property page. When you use this dialog, the most important specifications for the supplemental barcode are automatically configured according to the specifications of the corresponding UPC or EAN symbol.

The following options are available:

You can also create a supplemental barcode by clicking EAN/JAN/UPC 2-digit Supplemental or EAN/JAN/UPC 5-digit Supplemental in the Symbology list on the Symbology and Size property page. However, when you use this method, you must manually format the barcode as you would any other barcode on the template. You cannot use the Supplemental Options dialog to specify its appearance, and BarTender does not automatically place it in the correct position.
