Using the Print Station Interface

Print Station features a simple, intuitive interface that you can customize to suit your needs. Print Station monitors one or more system folders that contain BarTender document files, process files, and BarTender XML (BTXML) script files. The files within a selected folder are displayed in the browser window, which is the main viewing area in Print Station. You can print any file that is displayed in the browser window by clicking the file.

You can customize the folders that are displayed in Print Station and some aspects of the Print Station user interface by using the Administrative Setup dialog. For more information, refer to Configuring Print Station.

The Print Station interface includes the following components.

ClosedToolbar

Use the Print Station toolbar, which is located across the top of the application, to browse to or search for documents; to customize the Print Station view; and to access the Print Station help system, the Administrative Setup page, product information, and links to the Seagull Scientific website.

Moves backward through your folder (or page) views.

Moves forward through your folder (or page) views.

The navigation arrows are visible only if Show folders in browser or Show folder navigator is selected on the General property page of the Administrative Setup dialog.

Returns to the Print Station start page. Available only when the Show folder navigator option is not selected on the General property page of the Administrative Setup dialog.

Searches the current folder for files by name or keyword. You can insert wildcard characters, such as a question mark (?) or asterisk (*), in the middle of the text string to expand your search. Results are filtered in real time as you enter text in the search bar.

To move the cursor automatically to the search field, press Ctrl+F or F3.

 

or Switches the display in the browser window between showing the file thumbnail with title only and showing the file thumbnail with file details. You can click to access the More View Options menu, where you can specify additional display options.

Opens the Administrative Setup Options menu, where you can access Print Station's help system, the Administrative Setup dialog, product information, and links to the Seagull Scientific website.

ClosedBrowser Window

The browser window displays the BarTender document files, process files, and BTXML script files that are available in the selected folder. Use this window to select an available file for printing. If you clicked to select the Show folders in browser check box on the General property page of the Administrative Setup dialog, you can also browse the folders within the browser window.

The specific folders and files that are displayed in the browser window depend on the following factors: 

The displayed folders are monitored for any changes, and the browser window is automatically updated if any files are added, deleted, renamed, or otherwise updated.

A tooltip that includes the file name, file size, date modified, and a descriptive comment (if applicable) is displayed when you point to an item.

ClosedFolder Navigator

Use the folder navigator to browse the various directories and sub-directories of the folders that are available to you. The folder navigator is displayed in the Print Station user interface when the Show folder navigator option is selected on the General property page of the Administrative Setup dialog. This setting is ideal for use with touchscreens. For more information, refer to Configuring Print Station for a Touchscreen.
