Configuring Print Station for a Touchscreen

The user interface of Print Station is simple enough to be used with a touchscreen. The browser window displays each of the BarTender documents as an icon that the user can tap. You can increase the entire application window to full-screen size to prevent users from clicking into other applications, and you can modify the title to instruct users about what to do. You can run this "single-click" environment on a typical computer or on a touchscreen kiosk.

Use the following procedures to configure Print Station for effective use in a touchscreen environment.

ClosedRun Print Station in Full-Screen Mode

When you select full-screen mode in Print Station, the application automatically expands to the size of the monitor's resolution when it starts. Print Station is displayed on top of all other applications that are running on your computer, including the computer desktop.

ClosedTo select full-screen mode

  1. On the Administrative Setup Options menu, click Administrative Setup.

  2. On the General property page, under View Options, click to select the View full screen on startup check box.

  3. Click OK.

ClosedRequire a Password to Exit Full-Screen Mode

You can "lock" full-screen mode by using an administration password. This prevents users from exiting full screen mode unless they enter the password.

ClosedTo set an administration password

  1. On the Administrative Setup Options menu, click Administrative Setup.

  2. On the Security property page, under Administration Password, click Set or Change Password to open the Administration Password Setup dialog.

  3. Under New Password, enter the password that you want to use.

  4. Under Confirm New Password, enter the password again.

  5. Click OK to save the password and close the Administration Password Setup dialog. You can change your password at any time by repeating steps 1-4.

  6. Click OK.

ClosedTo require a password to exit full-screen mode

  1. On the Administrative Setup Options menu, click Administrative Setup.

  2. On the Security property page, under Administration Password, click to select the Require password to exit full screen check box.

  3. Click OK.

ClosedIncrease the Size of Icons in the Browser Window

The browser window displays all BarTender documents as icons in the specified directory. If the icons are too small to tap, you can increase their size. After you resize the icons, you can lock the icon size by hiding the More View Options menu.

ClosedTo increase icon size

  1. Open the More View Options menu.

  2. Use the slider control to specify the icon size that you want. Larger icons are easier to tap, so you might want to select Large Tiles or Extra Large Tiles.

  3. Click anywhere outside the menu to close it. The icon size setting that you selected is saved and will appear the next time you run Print Station.

ClosedTo lock icon size

  1. On the Administrative Setup Options menu, click Administrative Setup.

  2. On the Security property page under Features to Disable, click to select the Changing view options check box. This hides the More View Options menu, which prevents users from changing the icon size.

  3. Click OK.

ClosedIncrease the Size of the Print Dialog

In touchscreen applications, sometimes the Print dialog buttons are difficult to tap because of their small size. Additionally, you may want to increase the number of copies to print but find that you cannot consistently tap the up or down arrows to change the copy count. You can resolve these issues by increasing the size of the Print dialog.

To resize the Print dialog, add a scaling factor to the Print Station configuration file. This file is called Settings.config and is the location where Print Station saves all of its configurable settings. For example, if you enter <PrintDialogScale>150</PrintDialogScale> in the Settings.config file, the size of the entire Print dialog, including the Print and Cancel buttons, is increased by 150 percent.

The default installation path of the configuration file varies depending on the operating system that you are running, as follows.

Windows 10
Windows Server 2016

C:\ProgramFiles\Seagull\BarTender Suite\Print Station

Windows 7
