Customizing Folder Navigation

When you set up Print Station, you have the following options for enabling users to access and view documents:

In the default configuration, users are limited to viewing and printing only those files that appear in the single folder that is specified for Print Station to display. No actual folders are available for users to browse. This setup is ideal when all of the documents that you need to print are in a single depository, or when you want to prevent your users from accessing other folders in the system.

However, when the single root folder that you have chosen to display has one or more subfolders, or when you have specified additional root folders for display, you will want to configure Print Station so that users can browse the available folders and subfolders. If you choose to display folders in the browser window, users can click individual folders and subfolders to browse for files. If you enable Print Station's folder navigator, the folders and any subfolders are displayed in the left navigation pane.

By displaying the folders in the browser window, the folder navigator, or both, you essentially grant access to your users to browse through multiple directories on your file system. You can re-establish security to sensitive materials by adding password protection to BarTender documents by using BarTender Designer. You can also restrict access to specific folders by using the Administrative Setup dialog. For more information about adding security to root folders, refer to Restricting Folder Visibility.
