Enabling Authentication

To use authentication securely, we strongly recommend that your system use the HTTPS protocol.

Administrators can configure Print Portal so that users must log in by using their Windows accounts. You do this by enabling authentication on the Advanced property page. When you do this, the permissions settings that are configured in Administration Console are enforced.

When you enable authentication for Print Portal and also enable security (and configure permissions) in Administration Console, access to Print Portal and the Administrative Setup page is determined by the user permissions that are configured in Administration Console, as follows:

ClosedTo enable authentication

  1. On the Home page, click Administrative Setup to open the Administrative Setup page.

  2. Click the Advanced tab to display the Advanced property page.

  3. Click to select the Enable Authentication check box, and then click Save.

  4. Start Administration Console, and then add Print Portal Run and Administer permissions to the users and groups that you want.

  5. For more information about how to assign user permissions by using Administration Console, refer to the BarTender help system.
