Adding and Removing Buttons and Commands

You can customize toolbars by adding and removing toolbar buttons by using either the Toolbar Options menu or the Customize dialog. By using the Customize dialog, you can also add menu commands and even custom menus to a toolbar. For more information about how to add custom and default menus to toolbars, refer to Adding Menus. You can also restore a default toolbar to its original configuration at any time.

  1. Click on the toolbar that you want to edit to open the Toolbar Options menu. This button is located at the right side of a horizontal toolbar and at the bottom of a vertical toolbar.

  2. Point to Add or Remove Buttons, and then point to the toolbar that you want to edit to display the list of buttons for that toolbar.

  1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Customize to open the Customize dialog. Alternatively, open the context menu for any toolbar in the application, and then click Customize.

  2. In the Customize dialog, click the Commands tab.

  3. Select a category from the Categories list. The available commands that are included in that category appear in the Commands list.

  4. From the Commands list, drag the command you want to the toolbar that you want to place it on. Continue to drag the command until an insertion bar appears on the toolbar at the location where you want to place it, and then release the mouse button.

This method of removing toolbar commands is available only when the Customize dialog is open.

  1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Customize to open the Customize dialog. Alternatively, open the context menu for any toolbar in the application, and then click Customize.

  2. In the main user interface, drag the button or command away from its toolbar, and then release the mouse button.

ClosedTo restore a toolbar to its default configuration

  1. Click on the toolbar that you want to edit to open the Toolbar Options menu. This button is located at the right side of a horizontal toolbar and at the bottom of a vertical toolbar.

  2. Point to Add or Remove Buttons, point to the toolbar that you want to restore, and then click Reset Toolbar.

  3. Click OK to reset the toolbar to its default configuration.

Alternatively, you can use the following method to restore the most recently customized toolbar:

  1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Customize to open the Customize dialog. Alternatively, open the context menu for any toolbar in the application, and then click Customize.

  2. On the Toolbars tab, click Reset.

  3. Click OK.
