Customize Dialog

Use the Toolbars tab to specify which toolbars are visible on the user interface and to create custom toolbars.

• Toolbars: Lists all of the default and custom BarTender toolbars. To hide a toolbar, click to clear the toolbar check box. To show a toolbar, click to select the toolbar check box.

• New: Creates a custom toolbar. For more information, refer to Creating New Toolbars.

• Rename: Renames the selected custom toolbar. You can rename only custom toolbars. The default BarTender toolbars cannot be renamed.

• Delete: Deletes the selected custom toolbar. You can delete only custom toolbars. The default BarTender toolbars cannot be deleted.

• Reset: Deletes all custom toolbars and relocates the default toolbars to their original position on the user interface. The Reset button does not reset to a factory default setting. It resets to the original settings of the current BarTender session.

Use the Commands tab to add and remove buttons and commands from toolbars and custom menus and to create custom menus on default or custom toolbars. These toolbar buttons and menu commands are collectively referred to as commands.

• Categories: Lists the BarTender main menus and categories of commands that you can add to a custom toolbar.

• Commands: Lists the buttons and menu commands that are associated with each category.

Use the Keyboard tab to add keyboard shortcuts to BarTender menu commands and toolbar buttons.

• Category: Lists BarTender's main menu categories, design tools, and text commands.

• Commands: Lists the commands that are associated with the selected category and that are available for keyboard assignment customization.

• Key assignments: Lists any keyboard shortcuts that are currently associated with the selected command.

• Press new shortcut key: Specifies a new keyboard shortcut for the selected command.

• Assign: Assigns the keyboard shortcut that you entered in the Press new shortcut key field to the selected command.

• Remove: Deletes the keyboard shortcut that is currently selected in the Key assignments list.

• Reset All: Deletes all custom keyboard shortcuts and returns all commands to their default key assignments.

The Options tab specifies the general appearance of screen tips and toolbars.

Personalized Menus and Toolbars

• Always show full menus: Specifies whether a complete list or a partial list of menu commands appears when you open the menu.

• Show full menus after a short delay: Specifies whether all menu commands appear after a short pause.

• Reset menu and toolbar usage data: Deletes the menu and toolbar change history. The memory is reset to the starting values of the current BarTender session.

Other

• Large Icons: Specifies that the toolbar buttons are displayed as large icons.

• Show ScreenTips on toolbars: Specifies that screen tips appear when you point to a toolbar button.

• Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips: Specifies whether the available shortcut keys appear in the screen tips.

• Menu animations: Specifies the animation that is used to display the menu commands when you open a menu from the main menu bar or from a toolbar menu button.

The following additional customization options are available when the Customize dialog is open:

• You can open a context menu for each menu, menu command, and toolbar button. The context menu includes one or more of the following commands:

• Reset: Resets the menu, menu command, or toolbar button to its default state.

• Delete: Removes the menu, menu command, or toolbar button.

• Name: Displays the current menu or command name. To change the command name, click the input box to the right of Name. A graphical button displays the new name only if you also click Text Only or Image and Text.

• Copy Button Image: Copies the button or menu command's image to the Clipboard.

• Paste Button Image: Pastes a copy of the button image to the selected toolbar button or menu command. When you paste a button image into another button, the existing image is replaced. When you paste a button image into a menu command, the image is added to the left of the menu command text.

• Reset Button Image: Resets the selected image or command to its default image, if one exists.

• Edit Button Image: Opens the Button Editor dialog, where you can customize the button by using image editing tools.

• Change Button Image: Opens a group of images that you can use to replace the current button image.

• Default Style: Resets the command or button to its original default style if you previously selected Text Only or Image and Text.

• Text Only: Specifies that only the value of the Name input box is displayed for the command or button. This option is available only when a command or button has an associated image.

• Image and Text: Specifies that both the image and the value of the Name input box are displayed for the command or button. This option is available only when a command or button has an associated image.

• Begin a Group: Inserts a separator line in the toolbar or menu so that a group of toolbar or menu commands can be defined.

• You can drag buttons, commands, and custom menus to change their order on a toolbar or within a custom menu or to place them on another toolbar or custom menu. For more information, refer to Moving Buttons, Commands, and Custom Menus.

• You can drag buttons and commands away from default toolbars to hide them or away from custom toolbars to remove them. For more information, refer to Adding and Removing Buttons and Commands.
