File Locations Page |
The File Locations page, which you can access by clicking the File Locations node in Administration Console, specifies the directories where BarTender stores BarTender-specific files, such as documents, images, and scripts, for later retrieval. You can also use this page to configure the default directories where you want BarTender to save these files, and you can save those settings for use with another instance of BarTender.
The File Locations page includes the following sections.
The Folders section includes a table of the directories that BarTender uses to save BarTender-specific files for later retrieval, which are listed by file type and location. You can change the name and location of these folders.
To view the directory path of a file type, point to its location in the Location column. To browse to the folder location, double-click the file type or location to open the Browse for Folder dialog. To open the directory in Windows Explorer, use the secondary mouse button to click the file type or location, and then click Explore Folder.
The following BarTender-specific file types and their default locations are listed in the Folders section:
Background Pictures: This directory contains pictures that you can use as the background of a template.
BarTender Documents: This directory contains the documents that you create by using BarTender, unless you browse to a different directory in the Save As dialog when you save the document.
BarTender Process Files: This directory contains the BarTender process files that you create by using Process Builder, unless you browse to a different directory in the Save As dialog when you save the process file.
BTXML Scripts: This directory contains the BTXML script files that you create. If you open a BTXML script file from another location, BarTender uses that location as the new default.

Integrations: This directory contains the integrations that you create, unless you browse to a different directory in the Save As dialog when you save the integration.
Pictures: This directory contains pictures that you can add to a template.
RFID Antenna Images:
SAP IDoc Definitions: This directory contains the default SAP IDoc Definitions file (Default.idt) and an XML document that contains the definitions that you specify on the SAP IDoc Definitions page of the Databases section of Administration Console.
Script Libraries:
The Folders section includes the following options:
Change Location: Opens the Browse for Folder dialog. Select the folder that you want to move, and then click Change Location. Alternatively, you can use the secondary mouse button to click the folder and then click Change Location. In the Browse for Folder dialog, you can change the folder location by browsing to the directory that you want or by creating a new folder.
Reset to Default Location: Returns the selected folder to its default location.
The Configuration Files section includes a table of BarTender configuration files that define the behavior of BarTender, which are listed by file type and location. You can change the file name and location of the configuration files. You can also save the settings that are contained in each of these configuration files in an XML document and then export or import this document between instances of BarTender.
To view the directory path of a file type, point to its location in the Location column. To browse to the location of a file type, double-click the file type or location. To open the directory in Windows Explorer, double-click the file type or location. Alternatively, use the secondary mouse button to click the file type or location, and then click Explore Containing Folder.
The following BarTender file types and their default locations are listed in the Configuration Files section:
Advanced Printer and Driver Settings: Any changes that you make in the Advanced Printer and Driver Settings dialog are stored in the specified location in a message file that has the *.xml file name extension.
License Server: Connection Settings:

Page Setup: Custom Stocks: BarTender is installed with the size and layout definitions of most of the stock types of nearly every manufacturer of media stock. If you create your own stock definitions, they are stored in the specified location in a stock file that has the *.stk file name extension.
Printer Code Templates: Print Systems: When you export printer code templates, you can use a predefined system of delimiters and data field names (such as SAPscript-ITF) or define a system of your own. These custom print systems are stored in the specified location in a file that has the *.xml file name extension.
Weighing Scales: Installed Scales: All scales that are installed by using the Add Scale wizard are stored in the specified location in a file that has the *.xml file name extension.
Weighing Scales: User Defined Models: All user-defined scale models and protocols are stored in the specified location in a file that has the *.xml file name extension.
The Configuration Files section includes the following options:
Change Location: Opens the file location directory. Select the configuration file that you want to move, and then click Change Location. Alternatively, you can use the secondary mouse button to click the configuration file and then click Change Location. In the file location directory, you can change the file location by browsing to the directory that you want or by creating a new folder. You can also change the file name by entering the file name that you want.
Reset to Default Location: Returns the selected file to its default location.
Export Settings: Opens the Save File dialog. Select the configuration files whose settings you want to export, and then click Export Settings. Alternatively, you can use the secondary mouse button to click the configuration file and then click Export Settings. By using this dialog, you can specify a file name and location for the settings file that you want to export.
Import Settings: Opens the Open File dialog. Select the configuration files whose settings you want to import from a different instance of BarTender, and then click Import Settings. Alternatively, you can use the secondary mouse button to click the configuration file and then click Import Settings. By using this dialog, you can browse to and select the settings file that you want to import for the selected configuration files.
The Backup and Restore section includes the following options:
Backup Locations: Opens the Save File dialog, which you can use to save your folder and file locations to an XML file.
Restore Locations: Opens the Open File dialog, which you can use to restore your files and folders from a previously saved backup file.
