BarTender supports unique TrueType fonts from Seagull Scientific that you can apply to text objects on your templates and data entry forms. By using Seagull fonts, you have access to a number of standard industry-specific symbols that you can easily resize and format to fit your design needs.

To insert a symbol into an existing text object on your template

On the Data Source tab, select the entire contents of the Embedded Data field, as you are going to replace the contents with the Seagull Symbol.

Click the
icon to open the Insert Symbols or Special Characters dialog.

Select the desired "Seagull" font from the Font dropdown list. The Seagull Scientific fonts are installed as "Seagull" fonts.

Click Insert to insert the symbol into the Embedded Data field on the Data Sources property page.

Click Close to close the Insert Symbols and Special Characters dialog. The symbol will be visible in the Embedded Data field.

Using shortcut keys to add Seagull font symbols to your document
Shortcut keys are also provided for many of the Seagull font symbols. When you routinely use an industry-specific symbol in your document designs, you may find it faster to add your symbol using its shortcut key. To take advantage of this feature, you must first determine the shortcut key for the desired symbol.
To find a symbol's shortcut key

The shortcut key displayed for this "Seagull: Recycling" font symbol is Latin Capital Letter F, so the shortcut key is "F".

To insert a symbol onto a template using the symbol's shortcut key

From the dropdown list, select Single Line or Multi-line.

Click the desired area on the template or data entry form to insert the text object.

Click on the text of the text object to highlight the default sample text.

Type the desired shortcut key.

Select the desired "Seagull" font from the BarTender Text Toolbar. The shortcut key becomes the symbol.

It is also possible to create the text object on the template and apply the Seagull font to it, and then subsequently read the shortcut key into the text object from a database field.
