Librarian |
Librarian is a revision control system for BarTender documents, images, and related files. Revision control stores files in a centralized repository, and allows you to track changes made to a file, revert to earlier versions, and restore deleted files. Librarian stores its files in the BarTender System Database, so that all users of the BarTender Suite have access to them.
In order to edit a file stored in Librarian, a user must check the file out of the repository. When the changes are complete, the files are checked back into the repository. Librarian keeps track of all revisions, noting the date and time of a modification, as well as the user who checked the file into the repository. Users, provided they are granted permission in Security Center, have access to this information, so that they can easily identify file revisions. Revisions of a file are identified by consecutive numbers. The initial addition of a file to the repository is "revision 1". When the first change is made to a file, the subsequent check-in is "revision 2", and so on. At any point, a user can rollback to a previous revision of a file.
Librarian allows you to use workflows to track changes made to a file, using customizable states. By assigning a state to a file, you can easily identify the progress of a file towards a goal.
The Librarian help system is divided into three sections:
Using the Librarian Interface: This section describes each of the controls and dialogs that you may encounter while using Librarian.
Managing Files: This section includes steps to walk you through how to check files in and out of the repository, view properties, and otherwise manage files.
Workflows: This section describes how to setup and use a workflow to help manage files.
If after consulting this online help system you are having difficulty using Librarian, you may wish to contact our Technical Support department for further help. Technical Support contact information can be found on the Technical Support help page.
