Logging Permission Checks

You can enable logging permission checks when you want BarTender to log users' attempts to perform certain actions, whether the user has permission to perform the action or not. This can be useful for both troubleshooting and auditing purposes. When combined with electronic signatures, logging permission checks is a vital part of satisfying a number of high security standards, including the United States FDA’s CFR 21 Part 11 guidelines, which require that electronic signatures be captured for certain actions.

ClosedTo enable logging permission checks

  1. In Administration Console's left Navigation Pane, click Security and expand the node.

  2. Under Security, click Logging to open the Logging page.

  3. Click the check box next to each action that you would like to log.

If you wish to enable logging for all actions, simply click the Check All button. Alternatively, if you wish to disable logging for all actions, click the Uncheck All button.

  4. Click Apply to save your changes. Alternatively, click OK to save your changes and close Administration Console.

Logs are saved to the BarTender System Database. If the BarTender System Database is not yet configured, the Logging page will display a message allowing you to set up the BarTender System Database.

Once you have enabled logging for one or more actions, you can audit the list of permission checks that have been performed within the BarTender Suite at any time from the Security Permissions Checks view of the History Explorer application.
