Making Adjustments for Labels with Gaps

When your label stock has gaps (small spaces) between each row of labels, such as the stock used on thermal and some other continuous-form printers, the actual label size you have to print on is slightly smaller than the size computed when Set Manually is disabled.

If you want the difference between the page size and the actual label size to be properly accounted for in the label viewing area on your screen, you must enable the Set Manually option and set the label dimensions on your own. Because BarTender bases its automatic label height and width settings on all the other settings in the Page Setup dialog, we recommend using the following procedure. This procedure enables BarTender to give you label size settings that are very close to those you need. After BarTender does most of the work, you simply make a minor adjustment to one (or two) of the settings.

ClosedTo specify label height and width for label stock with gaps

Do not enable the Set Manually option until Step 5.

  1. From the File menu, select Page Setup to open the Page Setup dialog. Alternatively, select the icon from the main toolbar or double-click on a blank area of the template.

  2. Specify the size and orientation of your page using the options on the Page tab. (If your page size does not show up in the dropdown list displayed by the Page Size option, click on the "User Defined Size" setting at the end of the list and then type the appropriate values into the Width (of Page) and Height (of Page) options.)

  3. On the Layout tab, enter the appropriate margin values.

  4. Enter the number of rows and columns of labels on a single page of stock.

  5. Click once to enable the Set Manually option under Gap / Pitch.

  6. If you have followed this procedure, BarTender will now display label width and height settings that are very close to those you need. Choose one (or both) of the following:

    • If you have gaps between the rows on your label stock, increase the Vertical setting to match the height of the gap.

    • If you have gaps between the columns on your label stock, increase the Horizontal setting to match the width of the gap.

  7. Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog.
