Serialization Value Dialog

The Serialization Value dialog is accessible by selecting the button next to multiple controls in the Serialization dialog. It allows you to specify how BarTender determines the value of a numerical control. You can specify that a value always stays the same, or you can choose to dynamically change the value based on a database field or named data source. If you pull in a value using a database field or named data source, the populated value must be a numeric type.

The following options are available:

• Constant. When selected, sets the selected value to the specified numerical value. This value will always remain constant.

• Get value from database field. When selected, sets the value based on the contents of the specified database field. If the document is not currently connected to a database, this option will be disabled. To continue, you must connect to a database using the Database Connection Setup wizard, accessible from the File menu.

• Get value from named data source. When selected, sets the value based on the existing value of a named data source in your document. If the document does not have any named data sources, this option will be disabled. To continue, you must add a new named data source using the Create Named Data Source wizard.
