Options Tab (Text File)

The Options tab, located in the Database Connection Setup dialog, allows you to configure the text data file and BarTender's connection to it.

File

• Text File Name. Specifies the name and path of the text file database.

• Select File. Displays the Specify Text File dialog that assists you in finding the text file.

• View File. Displays the text file in the default text editor.

• Encoding. Specifies the character set of the text file if it is different from the default.

Delimitation

• Delimitation Type. Specifies the type of delimitation. Select from the following options:

  • Mixed Quote and Comma

  • Quote and Comma Delimitation

  • Comma Delimitation

  • Tab Delimitation

  • User Defined Delimiter

  • Fixed Width

• Field Delimiter. When Delimitation Type is set to User Defined Delimiter, specifies the character that will separate the fields of data.

Field Setup

• Number of Fields. Specifies the number of fields in the data source. BarTender defaults to the number of fields found in the database. You can manually increase or decrease the number of available fields using the spin controls.

• Find Number of Fields. Finds the number of fields in the data source. This option is not available if you select Fixed Width as the delimitation type.

• Widths. Opens the Fixed Width Fields dialog. Available when Fixed Width is set as the delimitation type.

• First Record Has Field Names. When enabled, instructs BarTender to interpret the first record in the file as field names.

• Get Field Names. Opens the text file, and reads the field names from the first record.
