The GS1-128 (UCC/EAN-128) barcode used on the shipping container labels required by several large retail stores often requires extra spaces and parentheses in the human readable text. Some GS1 DataBar (RSS) symbologies also use this special formatting. Depending on the requirements, these extra characters may be positioned in a variety of ways. The default setting for the GS1 Template option ("Parenthesis and Spaces") defines the most common configuration of these extra characters.
