User Preferences Dialog

The General tab defines BarTender's appearance and behavior under certain conditions. The following options are available:

Appearance

• Theme: Defines the active color theme for BarTender's user interface.

• Show font samples in typeface list: Displays a preview of each font in the dropdown list of the text toolbar. If you have performance issues with your computer, you may wish to disable this option.

• Sort typeface list by font type: Sorts typefaces by type, such as printer fonts and TrueType fonts.

• Objects outside template appear ghosted: Displays objects placed outside the template borders with a faded or "ghosted" appearance.

• Show RFID Antenna on Template: Toggles the visibility of an icon on the template representing an item's RFID antenna.

Behavior

• Immediate print from toolbar: When enabled, you can click the icon on the main toolbar to print the current document using the default printer settings without opening the Print dialog.

• Allow single click to enter on-screen edit mode: When enabled, allows you to enter object edit mode with a single click, rather than having to select Edit from the object's context menu.

• Show Tooltip When Snapping: When enabled, displays the tooltip for the Snap to Object or Ruler shortcut on the view toolbar each time an object is moved or resized and snapping is enabled.

• Set Object Reference Point When Snapping: When enabled, resets the object reference points of objects being moved or resized when the Snap to Object or Ruler option is enabled. For more information, refer to Object Snapping.

• Minimize Location: Specifies the location in Windows where BarTender will minimize.

The Startup tab enables you to define BarTender's behavior when you first open the application and when you start a new document. The following options are available:

Application Startup

• Action: Defines how BarTender will behave when you first open the application. Options include:

  • Show Startup Dialog: Displays a Welcome dialog, asking you how you'd like to begin working with BarTender.

  • Start a New Document: Creates a new document, based on the setting in the New Document Behavior section below.

  • Open an Existing Document: Displays the Open Document dialog, so you can browse to and open an existing document on your computer.

  • None: Causes BarTender to open without displaying any dialogs or documents.

New Document Behavior

This section defines how BarTender behaves when you start a new document, either by selecting New from the File menu or by clicking the icon on the main toolbar. For more information, refer to Creating a New Document.

• Run wizard: When selected, launches the New Document Wizard, which walks you step-by-step through setting up the page specifications and template background options.

• Immediately create blank template: When selected, opens a blank template based on the default shape and size settings of the Windows default printer.

• Start based on existing BarTender document: Opens a copy of the BarTender document specified in the Document field. To specify a document, simply type in the path and file name, or click the Browse button to navigate to the file location that you want.

The Regional Settings tab defines the language used for BarTender's user interface. The following options are available:

Language

• Language: Sets the language in which BarTender will display its menus and dialogs. If the language you desire is not in the dropdown list, additional languages can be installed using BarTender's setup program.
