Setting Up External Authentication
BarTender Cloud uses its own identity server, BarTender Identity Service (BIDS), to authenticate users. However, you can use an external authenticator to control access to BarTender Cloud should you want to. BarTender Cloud enables you to usePingID as external authenticator.
To set up external authentication
-
Click
to open the BarTender Cloud menu.
-
On the BarTender Cloud menu, click Administration, then Settings, then Global Settings.
-
In the Public Authentication Services section of the Global Settings page, specify the authentication service to use.
- Show BarTender login/password fields: Select to display BarTenders login and password fields to be used with BIDS to authenticate users. Even if you choose to use external authentication, you can still display these fields.
- Google: Select to use Google as an external authentication service to authenticate users.
- PingID: Select to use this external authentication service to authenticate users.
-
Enter the information for the authentication service.
-
Client ID: Enter the client ID that was set up with PingID.
-
Client Secret: Enter the client secret that was set up with PingID.
-
Issuer ID: Enter the Issuer ID, which consists of the PingID service location and EnvironmentID.
-
Enable Automatic Account Creation. Select this checkbox to have a BarTender Cloud account be automatically created when a user logs in using this service, instead of requiring the account to be set up beforehand.
-
-
Click Save.
Once you have set up and saved an external authenticator service, the login option for that service appears on the BarTender Cloud login dialog. If you have any questions about how PingID is set up for your organization, see your PingID administrator.

You can save external authentication information without including the authenticator in the Login dialog. Select the checkbox for the external authenticator, enter the required information, then clear the external authenticator's checkbox. BarTender Cloud retains the information you entered but will not include the external authenticatorin the Login dialog until you select the checkbox again. |
