BarTender Print Connector for Dynamics 365 Business Central

BarTender Print Connector for Dynamics 365 Business Central is a plug-in for Business Central that provides a dedicated, user-configurable solution to integrate the BarTender world-class print engine directly into Business Central. You can design labels by using BarTender Cloud templates and then map data fields from Business Central to data fields in your labels. Then, you can print labels from any list or form in Business Central, such as Items, Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, and so on.

When you install BarTender Print Connector, you download a free 30-day trial of the software. To continue using BarTender Print Connector after 30 days requires a separate subscription.

Related-Field Support

Related field support in the Microsoft Business Central connector enables labels that include complex data relationships. These labels can use multiple related fields to pull data from multiple related tables, even if related tables have no matching rows. This eliminates redundant data entry and reduces errors by pulling data directly from the authoritative source, and it supports common labeling scenarios such as serialized, compliance, and branding without forcing users to pre-merge data outside BarTender Cloud.

Microsoft Business Central connects to multiple tables within the system using pre-defined relationships, such as product ID, order number, or batch code. The connector always returns the base record for printing. Related fields are populated when matches exist and remain empty/null when they don’t. Label fields are automatically filled from the base and related tables at print time.

When you preview a label containing joined table data before printing, the joined data set displays only matching records. Previewing joined table data before printing enables you to verify that fields map correctly to label templates. When an error occurs during printing, the print does not fail or display incomplete data; instead, when a key does not exist in all joined tables, the label either does not print or prints with an error message, depending on configuration, and an error is logged for review.

When using inner-join queries on large datasets, the high-volume label printing executes efficiently and does not cause delays.

Requirements

To use BarTender Print Connector, you must be running the following applications:

  • BarTender Cloud with the Automation subscription plan

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (cloud or on-premises)

Prerequisites

Before you can use BarTender Print Connector to print your documents, you must do the following:

  • Install BarTender Print Connector. To do this, use one of the following methods:

    • In the Microsoft AppSource store, search for "BarTender," and then click to download and install the plug-in.

    • In Business Central, enter "BarTender" in the search box, click BarTender Print Connector under Get from Microsoft AppSource, and then click to download and install the plug-in.

  • Register BarTender Print Connector in BarTender Cloud. For more information, refer to the "Configuring Password-Based Access" section in Authentication.

  • Configure a BarTender Cloud user account that has password-based access to the BarTender Cloud REST API. For more information, refer to Managing Users.

    We recommend that you use a BarTender Cloud user account that is created specifically for use with Business Central.
