Version |
The PosiCode symbology supports two versions: PosiCode A and PosiCode B. An older version of both PosiCode A and PosiCode B, called Limited PosiCode, is also supported.
PosiCode A and PosiCode B encode the same character set, but PosiCode A uses fewer grid spaces per symbol character. PosiCode A is preferred for applications in which the mark width approaches the resolution of the reader. PosiCode B is preferred for applications in which the mark width must be larger than the G dimension (between 1G and 2G) due to limitations of the marking technology. PosiCode A is more tolerant than PosiCode B of mark placement inaccuracies for equivalent symbol density.
When you select a version for your symbol, consider the following differences between PosiCode and Limited PosiCode:
The size of the alphabetic characters in Limited PosiCode A is 12G (compared to 13G for the standard PosiCode A) and 15G for Limited PosiCode B (compared to 16G for the standard PosiCode B).
Limited PosiCode uses a single stop bar instead of the stop character that standard PosiCode uses.
Limited PosiCode uses a different scheme to map character values to center-to-center distances than standard PosiCode uses.
The check digit in Limited PosiCode is computed differently than that of standard PosiCode to avoid situations in which the check digit is read backwards and appears to be a valid start character.
Limited PosiCode requires a quiet zone of 12G for Limited PosiCode A and 13G for Limited PosiCode B. This quiet zone is defined as a zone which contains no complete bars. If a bar starts within the quiet zone, the center must be beyond the end of the quiet zone.
The standard versions of PosiCode support the use of GS1-formatted data, but Limited PosiCode does not.
