Error Handling Property Page |
Use the Error Handling property page to specify how BarTender handles a print job if the object is in an error condition. The Error Handling property page is available for all template object types.
To access the Error Handling property page, double-click an object to open its Properties dialog. Alternatively, click Properties on the object's context menu. Then, on the object's Properties page, click Error Handling in the navigation pane.
To configure the error handling settings that you want, click an error condition, and then click to select the actions that you want to take when that error condition occurs.
The error conditions that are available vary depending on the selected object type, and the actions that are available vary depending on the error condition that is selected.
|
You can select and edit multiple objects at the same time. When you do this, the error conditions and actions that are available are limited to those that the selected objects have in common. |
The following options are available.
Error Condition
Content Does Not Fit: Indicates that the content of the object does not fit in its specified area. This error condition can occur in the following situations:
For any object: The object boundaries are outside of the printable area of the template or exceed the boundaries of a containing object (such as grid or table cell boundaries).
For text objects: Auto-fit is enabled, but even the smallest text size clips the object.
For text objects: The paragraph height is set to manual, and the text does not fit in that height.
Data is Empty: Indicates that the data source for the object contains no data.
Data is Invalid: Indicates that the data in the object's data source is not valid and cannot be used with that object type. This error condition can occur in the following situations:
For picture objects: The picture data is in an unrecognized format or has some error.
For barcode objects: The data includes characters that are not valid for the specified code page or barcode, or the data is formatted incorrectly.
For Rich Text objects: The RTF, XAML, or HTML data is not valid (for example, the encoder reports an error).
File is Not Found: Indicates that a required file is not found. This error condition can occur in the following types of situations:
For picture objects: The picture is data-sourced, and the specified file name is not found.
For any data-sourced object: One of the data sources is "External File," and that file is not found.
Script Error: Indicates that the Visual Basic script that is associated with the object is not valid.
Actions to take
Display warning in design area: Outlines the object in red and displays an error indicator over the object. Point to the object to see a tooltip that provides more information about the error.
Do not print object: Specifies that the object that is in an error condition is not printed when the rest of the print job runs.
Clip to fit: Specifies that the content that is in an error condition is clipped to fit the object.
Use placeholder data: Displays placeholder data if the data source for the object cannot be found. Available for text and barcode objects with any condition except Content Does Not Fit.
Data: Specifies the placeholder data that you want. Available only when Use placeholder data is selected.
Use placeholder file: Specifies a substitute file to use for a picture object when the picture cannot be found.
Select File: Opens the Select Placeholder File dialog so that you can browse to and select the placeholder picture file. Available only when Use placeholder file is selected.
File: Displays the path of the placeholder picture file.
Write message to log: Specifies that BarTender writes the object printing error to the message log. This action is generally used as a secondary action, because it is not immediately visible to the print operator.
|
You can specify logging on a per-message basis by using the Message Setup dialog. When you use this option, a message can be written to all selected message targets. |
Invalidate label: Specifies that the label is marked to indicate that the content is not valid.
Style: Specifies the mark that is used to indicate that the label is invalidated. The options are Large X, Slashes, or Solid Black. Available only when Invalidate label is selected.
Ask user whether to abort print job: At print time, prompts the user to choose whether to stop the print job.
|
Error messages are displayed only when BarTender is visible. If BarTender is running as a windowless print engine, it takes a default action without prompting the user. The default action is determined as follows:
You can configure the default response for any error message by using the Message Setup dialog. |
Always abort print job: Automatically stops the print job if the object is in an error condition.
