When you use the Database Setup wizard to convert fixed-width, delineated fixed-width, and name/value pairs text files to databases, you can click to select the Specify advanced filtering options check box to use the Line Filtering and Data Filtering pages in the wizard.
The settings on the Line Filtering page specify which lines in the text file contain valid data. The settings on the Data Filtering page refine the way that data is extracted from each line in the text file.
The following options are available:

Discard <number> lines at beginning of file: Specifies that the specified number of lines at the beginning of the file are discarded and not read.

Discard <number> lines at end of file: Specifies that the specified number of lines at the end of the file are discarded and not read.

Discard blank lines: Specifies that blank lines are discarded and not read.

Discard lines that start with: Specifies that lines that begin with the specified characters are discarded and not read.

Discard lines that match regular expression: Specifies that lines that contain the specified are discarded and not read. You can use this option to create a regular expression to determine whether a line is skipped.

Stop reading when line matches regular expression: Specifies that the reading of data stops when a line that contains the specified regular expression is read.
Depending on the file format type, the following options are available:

Values persist between records: Specifies that when the value of a field is not defined for a record, the value of that field from the previous record is used. Available for name/value pairs text files.

Trim Spaces from each field: Specifies that any space characters at the beginning and end of each field are discarded and not read.

Trim Quotes from each field: Specifies that any quotation marks at the beginning and end of each field are discarded and not read. Available for name/value pairs text files.

Discard <number> characters on left of each line: Specifies that the specified number of characters on the left side of each line are discarded and not read.

Discard <number> characters on right of each line: Specifies that the specified number of characters on the right side of each line are discarded and not read.

Keep only <number> characters per line: Specifies that, after the other filters are applied, the line is truncated to include only the specified number of characters.
