Using Delimited Text Files

In a delimited text file, delimiters are used to separate the fields in a data file. For example, a comma-separated values (CSV) file uses commas to separate one field from the next.

BarTender supports several types of delimiters. When you connect to the database, BarTender analyzes the data in the text file and then selects the delimiter type automatically, although you can select another delimiter if you want or create a custom delimiter. If BarTender cannot detect the file format, it uses the default comma-separated values setting.

To start the Database Setup wizard to connect to a database for the first time, click Database Connection Setup on the File menu. Alternatively, click on the main toolbar.

To start the wizard for an existing connection, click Configure Connection in the Database Setup dialog.
