Redundancy Page

License server redundancy provides an automatic failover solution to keep your print production environment running seamlessly in the event that one license server fails.

In Administration Console, you can configure redundancy by setting up license servers in a backup relationship that uses two servers or in a triad relationship that uses three. Then, if the main or primary server cannot be reached by a BarTender client for any reason, the client automatically connects instead to the other servers in the relationship.

Use the Redundancy page to specify the server redundancy relationship that you want (backup or triad) and to configure its properties.

Before you can configure a backup or triad relationship, you must configure a rule in the This License Server section of the Administration Console Licensing page for each server so that each server has access to the other servers in the relationship.

The following option is available:

After you configure the relationships that you want, the options that appear on the Redundancy page vary depending on the relationship types, as follows:

Server information also appears on the other pages in the Licensing section of Administration Console. A triad relationship is treated like a single license server, and it appears on these pages when one of its three servers is active.

ClosedBackup Relationship

In a backup relationship, you configure a main license server and a backup license server. These servers host different licenses but share the same settings. The data is periodically synchronized between the main server and its backup server so that the backup server can take over the responsibility of the main server when needed.

When you click Setup Server Redundancy and then specify a backup relationship, the Redundancy Setup wizard guides you to do the following:

After you configure your servers, they are displayed in a table on the Redundancy page. You can manage these servers by using the Backup Relationship Setup wizard. To access this wizard, use one of the following methods:

The table also indicates the online status of each server. When the following icons are displayed, they indicate the status of the connection and synchronization between the servers:

Specifies that the servers are connected and synchronized.

Specifies that the servers are connected but not synchronized.

Specifies that the servers are not connected but are synchronized.

Specifies that the servers are not connected and not synchronized.

ClosedTriad Relationship

In a triad relationship, you configure three license servers to act as primary, secondary, and tertiary servers. These servers host the same licenses and share the same settings, so they behave like a single server.

When the primary server connects to either the secondary or tertiary server, it becomes the active server and can then process BarTender client requests. If the primary server fails for any reason, the secondary server tries to connect to the tertiary server. If the connection is made, the secondary server becomes the active server and can then process requests. BarTender clients automatically connect to whichever server can process their requests.

When you click Setup Server Redundancy and then specify a triad relationship, the Redundancy Setup wizard guides you to do the following:

After you configure your servers, they are displayed as a diagram on the Redundancy page. The following options are available:
