Copying an Object's Style

Format Painter is supported in both the Template Design view and the Data Entry Form view. For simplicity, the following content refers to objects but applies to controls as well.

You can use Format Painter, accessible from the icon on the object toolbar, to apply styles quickly from one object to one or more other objects. You can copy object styles within a single template and between multiple BarTender templates and documents.

The Format Painter tool is specifically designed to copy styles and formats from an object of one type to an object of the same type, such as copying the styles from one shape to another shape or from one barcode to another barcode. Although you can copy some styles to objects of a different type (for example, the font style of a text object to the font style of a barcode object), you should use caution when you copy styles between dissimilar objects, because some styles may apply differently for different object types.

Object styles that cannot be applied to another object include the following:

You can copy object styles only between templates and documents within a single BarTender instance.

ClosedTo copy an object's style to another single object

  1. Click the object that has the styles that you want to select it. The icon is enabled in the object toolbar.

  2. Click the icon. The mouse pointer changes to the Format Painter .

  3. Click the object to which you want to apply the styles. The styles are copied to the object, and Format Painter turns off.

ClosedTo copy an object's style to multiple objects

  1. Click the object that has the styles that you want to select it. The icon is enabled in the object toolbar.

  2. Double-click the icon. The mouse pointer changes to the Format Painter .

  3. Click each object to which you want to apply the styles. The styles are copied to each object that you click.

  4. When you are finished copying the styles to the chosen objects, select the icon in the object toolbar to turn off Format Painter.

After you have activated Format Painter, you can turn it off at any time by clicking the icon one time.
