GS1 Template

The GS1-128 (UCC/EAN-128) barcode that is used on the shipping container labels that are required by several large retail stores often requires extra spaces and parentheses in the human readable characters. Some GS1 DataBar (RSS) symbologies also use this special formatting. Depending on the requirements, these extra characters may be positioned in a variety of ways. The default setting for the GS1 Template option ("Parenthesis and Spaces") defines the most common configuration of these extra characters.

The following settings are available.

None: Select this setting when you do not want any extra characters be added to the human readable string. You can also use this setting when you need to add characters to the human readable string that are not specified in any of the other settings for this option. You can add the extra characters by using a character template.

The position of the extra parentheses and spaces in the human readable character string can vary depending on which application identifiers and data fields are in use.
