When you have configured a database connection in Process Builder that you want to use in other process files and actions or in other applications in the BarTender suite, you can save the database connection as a named database connection. Named database connections save your connection properties and parameters so that you don't have to re-enter them every time you use them. If the connection parameters change, you can edit them in one place rather than in every place that uses the connection.
To create a named database connection

On the property tab for a database action, click Database Connection Setup to open the Database Setup dialog.

If you have not previously connected to a database, you must complete the Database Setup wizard to open the Database Setup dialog. The Database Setup wizard starts when you click Database Connection Setup.

On the Connection Properties page, click Create named database connection.

In the Create Named Database Connection dialog, enter the name that you want in the Name field, and then click OK.
To modify a named database connection
To connect to a database by using a named database connection

On the property tab for a database action, click Database Connection Setup to start the Database Setup wizard.

Click to select Use an existing named database connection, and then click the named database connection that you want to use.

Click Next, and then complete the steps in the wizard.

If you try to use a named database connection that references a text, Access, or Excel database in an Insert Database Record, Delete Database Record, or Update Database Record action, you will receive an error message. These actions do not support these database types.

To stop using a named database connection
In some cases, you may want to stop using a named database connection with a particular process file and create a separate copy of the connection settings that is used only within that process file. To do this, click Stop using named database connection on the Connection Properties page of the Database Setup dialog. Any subsequent changes that you make to the unnamed database connection apply only to the current process file. The named database connection is still available to other process files and actions and to other applications in the BarTender Suite.
