Name (Printer)

The Name option in the Print dialog specifies the printer to which BarTender will print. It enables you to select a printer from a list of all installed Windows printers. The default setting is the printer that was last specified as the default printer in the Printers dialog of the Windows Control Panel. Some of the current printer's most important settings are displayed in the status lines displayed immediately below the Name option.

For your convenience, the printer setting is saved as part of the BarTender document. Therefore, the next time you need to print the same items, all you need to do is load the document and print.

When a document is loaded, BarTender looks for a printer with exactly the same name (including spaces and punctuation marks) as the printer that was selected the last time the document was saved. If it does not find one, it looks for a printer of the same type and uses the first one it finds. If it can find no printer of the same type, it uses the Windows default printer.

It is always a good idea to select a printer before you begin designing your templates in order to ensure that the template will be set up using the correct printer specifications. This is especially true if you want to design an item containing barcodes. The different barcode density ranges for laser and dot-matrix printers may affect the size of the barcode that fits on your item. For example, a barcode printed on a laser printer will be shorter than the same barcode printed on a high resolution thermal printer.
